  • A machine designed to resemble the cockpit of an aircraft, with computer-generated images that mimic the pilot's view, typically with mechanisms that move the entire structure in imitation of an aircraft's motion, used for training pilots

Thrustmaster T-16000M Flight Stick

Thrustmaster T-16000M Flight Stick

Thrustmaster T-16000M (16K X 16K Stick Resolution) PC Flight Stick. H.E.A.R.T. HALLEFFECT ACCURATE TECHNOLOGY is the name of the new technology developed by Thrustmaster. This technology, built into the T.16000 M joystick, relies on 3D Hall Effect magnetic sensors located on the stick. These sensors deliver precision levels 256 times greater than most current systems, allowing over 16,000 different values on each axis ? i.e. over 268 million values spread out over the joystick's various directions! This technology also offers an additional benefit: by removing all friction from the device, it removes any risk of mechanical wear, thus guaranteeing consistent precision in time. The joystick's precision is once again enhanced by the absence of dead zones, as evidenced by the green backlighting that illuminates as soon as the stick is moved. Thanks to the presence of a 2.8 mm diameter helical spring, the joystick offers firm control and allows linear and smooth actions, enabling users to maintain a consistent course, free from sudden corrections or control losses (Patent Pending). The device is indeed fully Plug & Play, and benefits from a number of predefined controls suited to the most famous games and simulators ? for immediate, hassle-free take-off! The fully ambidextrous T.16000M is suited to all potential joystick users, both left-handed and right-handed: its 3 sections ? including 2 removable parts and one part rotating over a 180 Degree angle ? allow users to tailor the joystick to their use. Likewise, the 16 action buttons featured on the T.16000M can be configured for left-handed or right-handed use, by means of a switch, for optimum ergonomics. The joystick's weighted base ensures much-appreciated stability during quick manoeuvres. Finally, inaddition to this incredible versatility, piloting with a joystick in each hand is now possible in all games supporting the simultaneous use of 2 joysticks.

My Computer Setup

My Computer Setup

My PC and Powerbook setup. The PC runs Windows Vista on a homebrewed Athlon 64 X2 6400+ with 4Gb RAM and an nVidia 8600GT graphics card, all on an ASUS M2N32 SLI motherboard, and is conveniently tucked under the desk. The Viewsonic VA2216w 22" monitor is the latest addition to my computing kit.

The Powerbook is a late model 17" Aluminium (1.67Ghz) with 2Gb RAM. It's loaded with Mac OS X Leopard.

On the peripheral front I use a Belkin ADSL wireless router, Creative 2.1 speakers (way old), a Logitech S510 keyboard and mouse combo, and a Logitech Freedom 24 wireless joystick (for MS Flight Simulator).

The Logitech keyboard and mouse are shared with the Powerbook and the PC when I feel like it via Synergy KM, the open source software KVM which also has a linux server and client if required.

Now what would be cool would be a way of switching screen use between the PC and the Powerbook a la KVM Switch - however there are no PS2 ports on the Powermac for the KVM I already own.
